Wedding season with a toddler is either a nightmare or the best thing ever. Adrian falls firmly in the second category — he loves dressing up, he loves attention, and he has absolutely no idea that his outfit coordination is making other adults jealous.
This look started as a practical choice — H&M Kids, sale section, white and blue striped linen suit. The kind of thing you grab because it's washable and looks put-together. What we didn't expect was that literally everyone at the wedding asked where it was from.
The Full Look
The key to dressing a toddler for a formal event is simple: linen, stripes, and something that moves well. Toddlers run. They sit on the floor. They eat cake. The outfit needs to handle all of it and still look good in photos.
- The suit: White and blue striped linen blazer and trousers set — H&M Kids. Under €25 for the set. Lightweight, breathable, machine washable.
- The shoes: Affenzahn barefoot shoes — colorful, fun, and actually good for developing feet. More on this below.
- The hair: Natural curls, zero effort. Let it do what it wants.
A word on toddler shoes — and why I will never buy fashion sneakers for Adrian: Toddler feet are still forming. Every podiatrist and developmental specialist agrees — barefoot or barefoot-style shoes are what growing feet need. Stiff, narrow fashion sneakers? They look cute in photos and cost you a fortune in future orthopaedic appointments.
The Barefoot Shoe Manifesto
I'm passionate about this. Adrian has worn Affenzahn since he started walking and we will never go back. Here's why:
Affenzahn makes barefoot shoes that are actually fun — every design is a different animal, they come in every colour imaginable, and they photograph beautifully. The 10th anniversary collection is stunning. Adrian picks his own pair and treats them like a personality statement.
The barefoot sole means his feet can feel the ground, develop proper muscle strength, and move naturally. He runs better, climbs better, and has never had a single foot complaint. Meanwhile I see other kids at the playground in rigid fashion trainers, walking on their toes, and I quietly say nothing.
- Why barefoot matters: Flexible sole, wide toe box, zero heel drop — this is what developing feet need
- Why Affenzahn specifically: Fun designs your kid actually wants to wear, quality that lasts through real use, and they grow with the foot properly
- Why not Superfit: They're fine but boring. If your child is going to spend their whole childhood in shoes, make them ones they're excited about
- Investment logic: One good pair of Affenzahn at €70–90 beats three pairs of cheap fashion trainers that damage foot development. Spend less on the outfit, invest in the shoes.
💡 The rule in our house: Cheap linen suit from H&M — yes. Expensive barefoot shoes from Affenzahn — always. Priorities.
Save this for wedding season!
